There is a must-see video available online that gives advice on how to soothe a baby. It is called “The Happiest Baby on the Block”, and is based on the book with the same name. I had originally planned to read the book when I was preggers, but never got around to it. Then in the days leading up to the birth, and trust me there were many of them (!), I found out there was a movie made that teaches the basic principles of the book. They are called the 5 S’s, which are 5 soothing techniques that when used individually or in combinations actually work to soothe a baby.
What I liked about the movie, which I wouldn’t have gotten out of reading the book, was to see first hand the techniques working because they soothed many babies in the video. Another thing that I liked about the movie is that the techniques were taught and then repeated a zillion times. So by the end of the movie, I could easily remember what the 5 S’s were. My husband, mom and I all watched it together. And honestly we were all glad we did because when the tiny newborn was finally here, we were able to put the principles to good use and soothe Willow pretty easily. Check out this video if you are about to have a baby or pass it along if you know someone who is expecting. It will be THE cheapest money spent on baby soothing, which must be a billion dollar industry in itself! Here’s a link to the video on iTunes.
